- Together with my staff, I welcome you to the website of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco.
Starting as a Consular Office in 1949, a year after the establishment of the Government of the Republic of Korea in 1948, it was upgraded to the Consulate General in September, 1953. Since then, it has played a pivotal role in developing friendly and cooperative relations between Korea and Northern California and the states of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, and in promoting the rights and interests of Koreans and the Korean community in the United States.
Historically, Northern California has played a bridging role between Korea and the United States and its people, and also served as a gateway for the Korean community to emigrate through Hawaii to the mainland. In addition, it is the very place where renowned leaders and activists such as Chang-ho Ahn, In-hwan Chang, and Myung-woon Chun led overseas campaign for Korea’s independence at the time.
Northern California, with San Francisco as a key place, is the leading center of the West Coast in the field of U.S. politics, international relations and security, economy and trade, culture and arts, and education. Additionally, it is the home of Silicon Valley, the nation’s leading hub of innovation and technology, namely information technology and biotech. In this respect, it can play a central role in further developing future-oriented relations between Korea and the United States. Also, the states of Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming are in the limelight as important partners in advancing ROK-US partnership.
With a view to achieving the era of Korean people’s happiness, my staff and I will do our best to provide prompt, accurate and friendly consular service. And we will continue our efforts to ensure the safety and to protect and enhance the rights and interests of Koreans in the United States.
We look forward to your continued support and constructive suggestions.
We promise to continue our efforts to provide better service and also would like to ask you to let us know if there are any comments or suggestion on improving our services and this website.
