8th Busan Global Partnership Forum - Reception

Excellencies, Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great honor to welcome you this evening to the 8th Busan Global Partnership Forum. We meet at a time of complex and interconnected global challenges. Your presence tonight stands as a powerful testament to our shared commitment to effective global cooperation and solidarity across borders.

Korea’s own development journey over the past seven decades offers certain lessons. First and foremost, we learned the value of responsible country ownership, result-oriented action, public-private partnerships, and accountable governance.

In an effort to share our experience, Korea hosted seven Busan Forum since 2014, providing a venue for dialogue and mutual learning, dedicated to development effectiveness. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your unflagging support throughout this process.

This year once again, your valuable participation and support guarantees another success, keeping the momentum going.

Korea’s growth story was made possible thanks to the generous support from the global community. In turn, the government of Korea is committed to being a responsible member of the community.

Going forward, we will focus on improving the quality and impact of our development cooperation efforts, so that changes can be witnessed and felt by the people in partner countries. Furthermore, We will invest to turn partner countries’ vision of inclusive growth into reality.

We will double our efforts to share our experiences – both successes and failures – as much as possible.

We do not see our path as “the” model for development. We hope it may serve as “a” useful reference for all those who wish to chart their own courses.

From knowledge sharing of policy reforms and institutionalization to basic education and training, Korea is eager to contribute. Through the Global Partnership and the Busan Forum, we will continue to expand opportunities for knowledge sharing, and we warmly invite your active engagement.

I hope this evening will deepen our partnership and mark the beginning of stronger cooperation. May it spark new ideas, foster collaboration, and renew our shared resolve to make development cooperation more effective and inclusive for all.
